:: Books - classic babylit counting primer

So, I know it's only the beginning of November, but I wanted to get a headstart on Christmas gifts.
I've been eyeing these books for a few years now and have fallen in love.
We bought a few for Reese from here.
Reese will love them and although Ava already knows how to count, I'm sure she'll love them too!

:: Books - halloween favorite

The girl's favorite Halloween book this year is this one.
There was an old lady who swallowed a bat.
Just like "There was and old lady who swallowed a fly",
except this one obviously has to do with goblins and ghosts.
I think I might have it memorized.

What are some of your kid's favorite halloween books?
We definitely need more!

And I love watching Reese read books in her own little language.
It's the cutest!

:: Good Reads - the scorch trials and the death cure

 So, remember when I had a goal to read a book a month?
Ha!  So much for that New Years Resolution.
Well, I have been doing some reading.
And finally finished this trilogy.
I finished the Maze Runner (the first book) in January.

I loved them and couldn't put them down.
Full of suspense, mystery and a little romance here and there.

Now I need to find something new to read . . . .

:: Good Reads - the maze runner

One of my goals is to read one book a month.
You laugh.
But it's the truth.
This is actually pretty good for me.
I love to read, but just have so many other hobbies I enjoy,
that reading often gets overlooked.

I borrowed this book from my brother/sis-in-law.
{we won't say for how long though}
It took me awhile to get through it, but by the end, I couldn't put it down.
It's a young adult science fiction (and I'm not really into science fiction),
but I did like it.
And of course it's a sequel, so guess what I'll be reading next month?
I'm actually in suspense right now.
I need to read it.

What should I read for March?
Do tell!

:: Christmas - christmas book tradition

I tried this tradition a few years back, but Ava was too young to care.
So, I didn't continue it.
 (plus I don't think I had enough Christmas books)

But it's really easy.
Just wrap up 24 Christmas books.
{if you don't have enough, go to the library or . . . re-wrap}
Place numbers on them (or not ).
Put under the tree.
Each night they get to open one up and you get to read it to them.
(although on Christmas Eve she gets to open up two - -
'Twas The Night Before Christmas and The Nativity)

Ava LOVES it.
She loves opening presents {and then shredding the paper to pieces}
and she also loves books.
So, it's a win-win.

We love reading them near the Christmas tree
with the twinkle lights lighting the pages.
We love Christmas!

Reese also likes this tradition and is beginning to love the opening of gifts.
{just hope she doesn't shred them like her older sis}

What are some of your Christmas traditions?

The Help.

I was so bad at blogging last week.
My sister was in town, so between her, a party, work,
and spending time with my family,
the blog was ignored.
One evening we had a girls night out.
Visited my cousin and her cute, newborn
and then went to the movie, The Help.
I was so excited to see this movie
and I was not dissapointed!
Loved it!
I loved it as much as the book.
I cried, laughed, and cried some more.

And did you know that Kathryn Stockett
received 60 rejections for this book?
After 5 years of writing and 3 1/2 years of rejection,
letter 61 was the one that finally accepted the book.
Talk about perseverance!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

When I was pregnant with Ava, a cousin of my husband, suggested that I read this book. It made sense and I decided to follow the things they suggested. After implementing their ideas, little Ava was sleeping through the night at 11-12 weeks. And when we'd put her down to take a nap she'd just go to sleep, usually, without crying. I was amazed!

So with Reese I knew I'd be doing it again. I was a little bit more frustrated this time around cause it didn't seem like she was catching on as quickly. And during her second month, she was a needy little one. Always wanting to be held and crying if we didn't. But at 12 weeks she is now sleeping through the night and we're loving it.

Is there a book that you read that helped you prepare for your little one? Would love to hear about your experience!

{Now, I know, I know, I know. I've heard it many times. There are a lot of people who don't like this book. But this has worked for our little family and we love it!}

Blog books . . . finally here!

Last Friday I finally received them!! My husband told me I had something at the door. And, yes, I ran to the door and screamed as I opened it. {Exactly what a teenage girl would have done.} I finally received my blog books! Woohoo! I was so excited.

I had worked on 3 of them. The first was from my family blog from 2010 - 200 pages long. For the two others, I'd decided to make a book for each of the girls about my pregnancy. I usually tried to take a picture of my growing belly about every 2 weeks and so that's some of what it contained.

I'm telling ya. Blurb is where it's at. {and they should totally be paying me for all the advertising I've done for them. but that's okay.}

Blog Books

So, in November, I'd posted this groupon deal here. I've used blurb before and absolutely love it. Every year I make a book from my family blog. I used to scrapbook, but for now this just works for me and doesn't stress me out as much. Well, this deal came and I couldn't pass it up. $20 for a $60 book! Of course. Silly me bought 3 of them. Yep, you heard right. 3!!! Crazy. I know. My goal was to have most of them finished before Reese came. Ha! That didn't happen. Then Christmas came and we were gone for a few weeks and, yep, the blog books hadn't been started.

So, the past month that's pretty much all I'd been working on in the evenings and while the girls were napping. But I finally finished them last week (it's good they had an expiration date or they'd definitely not have been done by now - - although I did just hear that they had extended the date until March. Ugghhh. . . maybe it's better that I didn't know.)

So, they should be coming pretty soon and I can't wait to show you! I love blurb. Check them out here. Oh, and here's the post of my previous blog book here.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Kathryn Stockett - Book Information
Kathryn Stockett - Book Information

I read this book during the Christmas vacation and couldn't put it down. If you haven't read this book yet, then put it on your list!
It's a fabulous story that follows the lives of three woman (two of them being black maids) in the 1960s in Mississippi. You'll grieve with them in their trials and rejoice with them in their triumphs. I definitely give it 5 stars!!!
Go out and borrow it, check it out, or buy it today!!! You won't regret it.
Oh! And they've made a movie out of it. Comes out in August!!!

Saving money: Blurb blog book

Remember this post about our blog book here? Well, I absolutely love using blurb. They slurp up everything from your blog and then you can design your book. I've been doing one every year for the past 3 years.

Well, my sister just called me up and told me that the Groupon in Pittsburgh, here, has a deal right now (for the next 4 hours) to get a $60 book for only $20. That's a great deal! You do have to finish them by sometime in February, but still. Awesome.

So, check it out now before it's gone!

Personal Family History Obsession: Blog Book

I used to be a journal writing freak. I'd write in my journal almost every single week. I still have one, but because of life, I don't get to it as often as I should. I also used to be a scrapbooker, but I think it just became too overwhelming for me. When I started my family blog, I thought that that was a perfect way to document our family history. A perfect combination of the two. I'm now a blogging freak. And thank goodness for Blurb BookSmart. They're able to "slurp" up all of your blog posts and put it into a book (you can have them arrange it for you or you do it yourself - - I did it myself). Amazing!

I just received the one I made for the past year and I love it! So does my little munchkin.

For some reason, I skipped 2008 so now I'm in the middle of working on that book (might be because there are a million trillion pictures due to the munchkin being born).

Do you put your blog in a book? What program do you use?
