:: What I'm Loving - bake even strips

When I found this recipe for this yummy layered cake,
it suggested to use "bake even strips" around the cake pan.
Had never heard of them before,
but found them in the cake decorating section in Michaels.
And can I tell you . . . I'm in love!
They make your cakes flat on top,
so no more trying to trim your cake . . . and then it falling apart.

All you do is soak them in water, squeeze the water out
and place around the pan.
They only cost about $10 and are definitely worth it.

:: What I'm Loving

A month or so ago, I finally won my first giveaway.
It was actually a fundraiser/giveaway put on by this amazing blogger friend here.
Anyway. It was awesome. So many
pretty packages arrived in the mail.
I felt like it was my birthday.
Everyday.
But one package I was especially excited for . . .
had this in it.

Love. It.
{and my camera loves it too.}
Check their blog out here.

:: What I'm Loving

Blogs can be addicting.
I know. I've been addicted to them.
Do I need anymore addictions?
No. No I don't.
So, why was I introduced to this a few months ago?
Addicting. {just to warn you}
Although it may be addicting,
it is a perfect place to "pin" the things you see around the web
onto your "boards".
Loving. it.
No more "bookmarks" for me.
And this is what I'm loving.
Do you pin?

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

So we finally started Reese on solids.
Which means it's time to get this book out
and start making baby food.
I was given this book before I had little Ava and
absolutely loved it!
It teaches you everything you need to know
about introducing solids to your little one.
Types of foods, when to introduce them,
how to make them, great recipes, etc.
I love this book! So, check it out!
You can also go here to learn more about it.

And that's what I'm loving today.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

When I was pregnant with my first little one, I decided that I was going to use cloth diapers. I researched and researched. You can imagine the responses I received. Basically, everyone thought I was "crazy". I was so self-conscious about it, that some of my friends didn't even know. {although now I really could care less}

But I bought a bunch of them and knew that in the long run, I'd save a lot of money! And I have! I didn't start using them until Ava was 4 months though because I had received so many diapers from her baby showers. Same with Reese. I've started using them on her within the past month.

The diapers I've been using are fuzzibunz. And they work. But I'd love to try some other brands out there sometime. There are so many! Any of you that use them?

Here are a few of my tips:

-I use them only when I'm at home {unless I'm out of disposable diapers}. If I'm out and about for a few hours or more, I usually change her into a disposable diaper. For me, it's just so much easier and I don't have to worry about storing the dirty diaper in my diaper bag.

-make sure you rinse the diaper out right away. Then you can store it in a plastic bag until you do your wash. If you don't rinse it right away, you'll start to notice a nasty, little odor.

-At night I usually don't use a cloth diaper on them because the ones I have at times will leak through at night {not sure about the other kinds}.

-I bought most of my diapers on e-bay in a lot and at the fuzzibunz seconds store- - that way they're cheaper than buying them from the company.

-It's rare that my little girls have diaper rashes when I use/used them.

- I don't take them on vacation.

-I keep a few cloth diapers in our 72 hour kit just in case. You never know what's gonna happen, right?

-plus, they're really fashionable. They come in almost every color and look so cute on the little ones.
I'm sure there's more, but I just can't think of anything else right now. Any questions?

Happy diapering!!!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

chevron

Right now, I'm loving all things chevron.

I'd love to make some pillows for my livingroom like the yellow ones above. And check out that lamp. Awesome. I might have convinced my husband to do some white chevron on our walls in our master bedroom like this one here. We'll see if it actually happens . . . along with the other bazillion projects that we're in the middle of.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Okay. So I know today's Thursday. I just had a busy Wednesday.

But. What I'm loving is Picnik!!! If you haven't heard of it. Where have you been?

I absolutely love them. I don't have photoshop yet, so this is where I edit pictures {if they need editing - I try not to though}. It has so many cool features. Teeth whitening. Cool effects. Blemish fix. Frames. Stickers. And then you could even add text to them. This is what I use for the collages with rounded corners. It's how I made Ava's birthday subway art {tutorial coming soon - - just needed to figure out how to do screenshots} and also her birthday invites from her party.

Best part is that most of the features are free! Although, if you want all of the features, you just pay $25 a year. Come on people. Is that a deal or is that a deal?!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Before Reese was blessed, I really needed to whiten the blessing dress that she was going to wear (30 years old) and the slip she would wear (60 years old). The slip was very yellow.
I'd done a lot of research online and decided I'd try to whiten it with Ivory Snow, but I couldn't find it any stores here (although you can get it online - - I now know). So I decided to go with my second choice . . . oxiclean. And it worked! You can definitely notice the differences below. I left the dress in it for about 4 hours and the slip in it for about 30 minutes. I then let them dry in the sun - - did you know the sun is a bleacher?

What products do you like to use to whiten?

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

When I was pregnant with Ava, a cousin of my husband, suggested that I read this book. It made sense and I decided to follow the things they suggested. After implementing their ideas, little Ava was sleeping through the night at 11-12 weeks. And when we'd put her down to take a nap she'd just go to sleep, usually, without crying. I was amazed!

So with Reese I knew I'd be doing it again. I was a little bit more frustrated this time around cause it didn't seem like she was catching on as quickly. And during her second month, she was a needy little one. Always wanting to be held and crying if we didn't. But at 12 weeks she is now sleeping through the night and we're loving it.

Is there a book that you read that helped you prepare for your little one? Would love to hear about your experience!

{Now, I know, I know, I know. I've heard it many times. There are a lot of people who don't like this book. But this has worked for our little family and we love it!}

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

For Christmas, my older sister bought all of her nieces and nephews these awesome plates. Aren't they cute?! It's made dinnertime much more fun. And little Ava will actually eat off of her plate . . . although, we do have to make awesome looking hair. If we don't, she sorta gets upset. {They even have one for the little boys too.}

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

We're loving this rug that we bought recently from that lovely swedish store, Ikea. Many reasons why I love it. One reason is that it's only $20. I know. Crazy, huh? I think I've finally decided on colors for our guest bedroom: grey, white, and yellow. It's going in there.

I always seem to leave that store with a hot dog and ice cream cone in hand. (and maybe a cinnamon roll) Hope I'm not the only one.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Before Reese came along, we had pretty much everything we needed to provide for her. Had a ton of clothes from when Ava was a baby and a friend threw me a "diaper shower". So, I didn't really need anything. Although . . . wants. That's another story. All I really wanted was this amazing stroller. Yep. A stroller.

I searched Craigslist for weeks. There was no way I could pay full price. About a month before Reese was born, I found it. We bought it and I'm in love. Mine's an older model but is still amazing. I love you phil & teds!!! (Just make sure you know how to take it down - - so you don't embarass yourself in the parking lot of the San Diego Zoo and have to have your friend try to figure it out for you. )

My girls like it too!

Kathryn Stockett - Book Information
Kathryn Stockett - Book Information

I read this book during the Christmas vacation and couldn't put it down. If you haven't read this book yet, then put it on your list!
It's a fabulous story that follows the lives of three woman (two of them being black maids) in the 1960s in Mississippi. You'll grieve with them in their trials and rejoice with them in their triumphs. I definitely give it 5 stars!!!
Go out and borrow it, check it out, or buy it today!!! You won't regret it.
Oh! And they've made a movie out of it. Comes out in August!!!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

What I'm loving today is something that makes me and my little girl so happy. Elated. Something you can't buy in a store. Rain.
Ava and I are suckers for rain. We love it! And this week it's been doing just that, especially today. Rain, rain. Please don't go away. Ava still sorta fits in her rain coat and boots and loves to put them on any chance she gets. Might be almost time to buy new ones. Ohhh. And maybe a cute rain jacket and boots for me too. Then we could puddle jump together.
These are pictures from Dec. 2009. Isn't she a cutie?

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Okay. So I know it's not even Halloween yet, but I found this packing tape at Michaels and thought it would be perfect for those Christmas packages I need to send in a few months. Aren't they cool? And the best part is that they're only $0.50 per packing tape. (I found them in the baskets near the check out line.)

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Oops. So I was supposed to post this yesterday. . . since it was Wednesday. Just had a crazy day.

One of my favorite fabric designers, besides Amy Butler, is Joel Dewberry. Check out his website here. I love the color combinations and designs.

Wouldn't this fabric make adorable fall dresses? Oh, if I just had the money and didn't already have too much fabric in my stash . . .

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Once we found out that Netflix streams through your Wii, we had to get it. For $8.99 a month, you can't beat that. We get the DVDs through the mail (one out at a time) and we can save movies on our Wii. It's great! We love it. And not sure why we even have basic cable (I know, we're big spenders) anymore cause most the time we'll just watch our TV shows through Netflix on the Wii. Whoever create this is a genius!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

{B&H photography}

I'm obviously not a professional photographer but I love capturing those special moments of my daughter. After having our DSLR for about a year, this lense was recommended and I couldn't be more happy with it. It's the 50mm f/1.8. I love the crisp, clean images it produces. It's great in low light situations and I love the depth of field. It makes everything look so much more professional, without the professional price. I bought mine off of amazon.com for about $90. Can't beat that. Someday I do want the f/1.4, but this will do for now.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

I always love a good book. And these three books definitely fit under that category. If you haven't heard of these books . . . where have you been? It's called The Hunger Games Trilogy. They are so good and definitely keep you wanting to read more. The third book came out at the end of August and I finished it a week ago.
At first, I thought it was going to be sci-fi (which I'm not into), but after hearing great reviews, I decided to read it. There's action, suspense, and a little bit of love. All that makes a book perfect! So, go to your nearest library or bookstore and pick it up!
