"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

chevron

Right now, I'm loving all things chevron.

I'd love to make some pillows for my livingroom like the yellow ones above. And check out that lamp. Awesome. I might have convinced my husband to do some white chevron on our walls in our master bedroom like this one here. We'll see if it actually happens . . . along with the other bazillion projects that we're in the middle of.

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Okay. So I know today's Thursday. I just had a busy Wednesday.

But. What I'm loving is Picnik!!! If you haven't heard of it. Where have you been?

I absolutely love them. I don't have photoshop yet, so this is where I edit pictures {if they need editing - I try not to though}. It has so many cool features. Teeth whitening. Cool effects. Blemish fix. Frames. Stickers. And then you could even add text to them. This is what I use for the collages with rounded corners. It's how I made Ava's birthday subway art {tutorial coming soon - - just needed to figure out how to do screenshots} and also her birthday invites from her party.

Best part is that most of the features are free! Although, if you want all of the features, you just pay $25 a year. Come on people. Is that a deal or is that a deal?!

Sew Along {for Japan}

I'm going to participate in this sew-along {for Japan}. Anyone want to join me?

Chelsea from Pink Fig posted this pattern and tutorial. Then Suzan with Living with Punks decided to do a sew-along from March 28-April 1. You need to have all of your supplies ready by next Monday {check here for everything that you need}. That's when we'll start.

Once you're done, we'll send it to Chelsea and she'll send it to Japan.

Awesome.

Free: "life is to be enjoyed" printable

Once a month at my church, I teach a cute group of teenage girls. I found this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley that fit perfectly with the lesson . . . about enjoying life and not just enduring it.
I think we all need to be reminded of this often.
If you want this free printable, just right click and save to your computer. Then print!

I'll be linking to the linking parties to the side {click on linking parties}

Photography: 3 year old pictures

I finally took Ava's 3 year old pictures. And I'm loving them.

We'd seen this cool looking tree from the freeway and found the road to get to it. It made an awesome backdrop. And really, I think that's definitely part of what makes a photo shoot amazing (of course, besides the people)!

Awhile back, I'd bought a Groupon for a gift card to spend at Shabby Apple. Love. This. Store. So, I bought one for me and a birthday dress for Ava. I bought this one for me (wore in this post here). Not only do they have amazing dresses for women, but they have the cutest dresses for little girls. I wish I had enough money to buy them all! If only. The dress is located here.

Little Girls Dresses from Shabby Apple

Ava absolutely loved being there. I asked her to run towards me and for the next five minutes that's all she was doing.

"my heart so broken"

Almost a week ago, my husband and I were watching the news in horror. Seeing what has happend in Japan, and not being able to help the people there, makes me feel, basically, just sad and helpless. I told my husband that "it just breaks my heart". Now everytime we see something about Japan, Ava has a sad face and says, "my heart so broken". Even a 3 year old is feeling the sadness.

But even though we live a world away, we can help. Not only with prayers but with donations.

Donate to the Red Cross here. {14% overhead costs - - 86% goes to help those in need}

Or to the LDS humanitarian services here. {no overhead costs - - 100% goes to help those in need}

{don't be scammed}

One of my favorite sewing bloggers is from Japan and still has family there. You can see her story here.

***********

We live in quakin' California. And we always hear that the big one could hit anytime. So after the tragedy in Japan, I had the earthquake talk with little Ava. Not to scare her, but just so that she knows what to do in case one hits and I'm not in her reach {which scares me to death}. And it's a little silly, but random times throughout the day I'll say, "the house is shaking, the house is shaking, the house is shaking". Ava hears this and runs underneath the table, rolls up in a ball, and covers her head. It's not always perfect. One time she rolled up in a ball on top of the stool, but she's getting there. Never too young to be prepared.

Last week we went to the beach.

The weather was beautiful and the company was even better.

I love spring breaks.

Did you embrace the camera this week?

Baking: chocolate chip cookie preparedness

Okay.
Is anyone else addicted to chocolate chip cookies like I am?
I better not be the only one.
The other day when I was making them, I thought it'd be so much easier
if I already had all of the dry ingredients in plastic ziplock bags.
That way, if I get a craving for these delicious cookies,
I'd just have to whip out the bag and then just add the wet ingredients.
{the hubster thinks this is an amazing idea too.}
I'm sure this isn't a new idea to all of you out there. Maybe you've been doing this for years. I don't know. But it seriously only took 5 minutes before they were on the pan ready to be baked. Yum.

I didn't have to deal with a huge mess . . . at that moment. Of course, you'll need to refill the bags, but that can be done another day. Another day that you don't have cookie cravings. {but really, when does that happen?}

Wow. This post is really making me hungry. Hungry for my chocolate chip cookies.

Happy Tuesday!

Birthday Party How-To: mini cake bunting

Remember the mini cake bunting on Ava's birthday cake? Well, the letters were a printable that I printed for free here. They have them in pastel, bright, and bold colors. Glue them to some lovely bakers twine and then tie them to lollipop sticks. I love it when people do my work for me!

Have a happy weekend!

"What I'm Loving" Wednesday

Before Reese was blessed, I really needed to whiten the blessing dress that she was going to wear (30 years old) and the slip she would wear (60 years old). The slip was very yellow.
I'd done a lot of research online and decided I'd try to whiten it with Ivory Snow, but I couldn't find it any stores here (although you can get it online - - I now know). So I decided to go with my second choice . . . oxiclean. And it worked! You can definitely notice the differences below. I left the dress in it for about 4 hours and the slip in it for about 30 minutes. I then let them dry in the sun - - did you know the sun is a bleacher?

What products do you like to use to whiten?

Tribute to someone special.

This is my grandma.
Today's her big day.
She turns 90 years young.
My middle name is Norine . . . after her. And so is Ava's.
She's one of the reasons I became a nurse.
She was an army nurse during WWII.
Has a ton of hilarious stories. She tells them in a way that you might
laugh so hard you'll wet your pants.
That's how funny she is.
She has 3 children, 17 grandchildren, and way too many
great-grandchildren for me to count.

I love that every Friday she still gets her hair done and gets a manicure. {she'd actually get very upset with me if she knew that I posted this picture above - - cause her hair was not done and she has no make-up on. But, hey, we were at our cabin. Let's hope she's not one of my "followers". But I think she's beautiful.}

I love how she'd always take us to McDonalds whenever she was in town, growing up. And she always had popscicles in the freezer waiting for us when we came into town.

I love that she doesn't want to leave this earth at all. She's still so full of life. She wants to see every grandchild married and, knowing her, possibly every great-grandchild too!

So. Happy Birthday Grandma! To the next 10 years!
